My name is Robert T Travis and I am a level designer for Sunstorm Interactive. I first started making levels when Duke Nukem 3D first came out on the market. So from my humble beginings as a manager of a Babbage's software store, I began to make levels in my spare time, starting with BetaOne. By the time the summer was over, I had discovered I had a great talent for creative architecture and level design and soon found myself with my first job in the game industry at Sunstorm Interactive. I also found a good bit of fame beacuse of my efforts, having won the original Total Entertainment Networks Duke Nukem level design contest, and have probably received nearly a thousand letters from people all over the world who wrote me to tell me how much they enjoyed my maps. It all goes to a guys head! I keep my head from getting too big by always reminding myself that my levels could always be better and have better framerate, though I do now consider myself to be a professional.
I don't have time anymore to make free internet levels, but work hard at Sunstorm to continue to improve my skills and become a better level designer with every commercial map I make. I also now hold the position of project leader at Sunstorm, which means that I am not only responsible for making levels, but for hiring others to make levels, and for supervising many of our official commercial add-on products. It is a job that tends to keep me pretty busy, but I'm very happy to be where I am at.
I live in Indianapolis, Indiana where Sunstorm is based. I moved here from West Virginia to accept the job. I just recently turned 29, which means next year I hit the big 30 and start getting 'old'! I am a big Star Trek fan, and love Deep Space Nine, which I consider to be the best Star Trek series of them all. I dislike Voyager beacause I feel they have bad writing and boring characters, it's amazing that both shows are produced by the same group of people! I like several types of music, most notably, Dance, Techno, Natalie Merchant, Cranberries, and other misc. artists. I am generally not religious at all and consider myself to be a Humanist and a Futurist. I also own a Playstation and a N64, and my favorite videogame is probably a contest between WipeOut XL and Mario64. It also goes without saying that on the computer I mostly enjoy virtual reality (3d) games, and also good role playing and strategy games. I am a strong believer that the industry needs to bring back turn based role playing games and get rid of all the awful real time crap that have run role playing games into the ground.
Well, if you want to know anything else about me, I guess you will have to just write and ask. Just don't send me your Duke Nukem maps to look at (unless your applying for a mapper position, and it better be well done) or write asking me to help you with your Duke project, sorry, but I just don't have the time. Thanks for reading abour me, although surely there are more interesting links to follow! ;)
