Converting these classic Doom Deathmatch levels into Duke form has been a labor of love. I scoured the internet for worthy conversions of these levels and came up empty handed. Appalled, I spent a lot of time learning about conversion, and the build engine. I never worked with dDoom editors and had a lot to learn. It simply had to be done. Duke Nukem rocks. Pure and simple. The multiplayer gameplay is so intense, and unlike the latest offereing from those...uh..geniuses (cough cough) at ID, the modem play is perfect. I have read some opinions of people concerning Doom Wad conversions into Duke Maps. These people feel that re-making wads is redundant and unoriginal, and while I agree that converting SINGLE PlAYER wads is kind of lame, I totally differ when it comes to deathmatch levels. Deathmatch levels, for the most part, have nothing to do with new terrain: they are all about creating a great forum in which to kill your opponent. Go onto any of the internet multiplayer services and you will see people playing the converted Danzig maps over and over again. The danzigs are the perfect example of what's right in deathmatch level design. Many of the people using the Build engine to design deathmatch levels today seem much less sensible than their Doom-level-design predecessors.
