====================================================================== Title : Some simple grappeling iron code Filename : grap.exe Author : James Ferry Date : 19th February, 1999 E-mail : Check the web page below Web Page : http://members.xoom.com/HCAD Other : NW3TC, WTC, OpenGL Build Touch Description : This package will demonstrate how to create a grappeling iron in D3D. This particular iron will launch directly upwards and attach itself to the roof. The player can then use the space bar to climb it. Specifics: The grappling iron may only be used under a solid roof, so that it can attach itself to the surface. To use it you should do the following. 1) change to weapon 0 (10 - freezer) and fire it indoors preferably in the cinema complex in e1l1, or anywhere else with a high ceiling. 2) move back slightly so that you can see the rope 3) walk up close to the rope, and I mean really close. 4) press space (you don't have to hold it down though) 5) dukes hands should retract so that they can't be seen anymore if his hands don't retract, then go to step 3 again. 6) if duke raises in height then you can press space again and slowly climb the rope. if duke doesn't raise in height, this is because the rope is to high (this is when he fires the hook while standing). Just jump so that duke can get his legs around the rope. 7) press space whenever you wan't to climb higher note: you have to be really close to the rope, it does help if you continuously hold the space bar down, but you don't have to. note: if duke looks away to far from the rope, he will slip and fall. While falling it is possible to grab the rope again by holding space and facing the rope. note: having too many ropes around will slow the frame rate down, and if you have an excessive amount of them, it will crash. You will need a fair few though. I have included a demo file for this patch, so that you can see it work. The unoptimised code is in grapcode.exe. This package is unsupported.
