=========================================================================== Advanced engine needed : Any source port with Timidity support (most) Primary purpose : Single play =========================================================================== Title : Gravis Ultrasound patches Filename : dgguspat.zip Release date : 2013-03-04 Author : Simon Howard (fraggle) Email Address : fraggle@gmail.com Other Files By Author : greenfish.wad Description : This is the standard set of patch files that were originally distributed with the Gravis Ultrasound (GUS) driver. If you want to play a modern source port and have it sound like a GUS, you'll find these helpful. The GUS patches have long been distributed under this filename. Timidity supports GUS patch (.PAT) files, so I've generated several Timidity configuration files that can be used with these patches. More information is below. Additional Credits to : Gravis, Tom Klok, Sebastien Bacquet, Jaydee =========================================================================== * Configuration files * The included dmx2timid.py is a Python script that will convert a DMXGUS lump into a Timidity configuration file. Several pre-made Timidity configuration files are included: timidity.cfg - This is the simplest configuration; it simply maps all the instruments from Doom's DMXGUSC lump into MIDI instruments. This is probably the "best sounding" configuration, but is historically inaccurate, because it uses more instruments than would ever be possible to use with a real GUS. If you just want to use the GUS patches, use this. The following configurations are for if you're nostalgic and want Timidity to sound like a real GUS: timid_d1.cfg - This simulates what DOS Doom would sound like if you had a GUS with the maximum 1024KB of RAM. timid_d2.cfg - This simulates what DOS Doom 2 would sound like if you had a GUS with the maximum 1024KB of RAM. timid768.cfg - Simulates what Doom 1/2 would sound like if your GUS had 768KB of RAM. timid512.cfg - Simulates what Doom 1/2 would sound like if your GUS had 512KB of RAM. timid256.cfg - Simulates what Doom 1/2 would sound like if your GUS had 256KB of RAM. gus1mIId.cfg - Sebastien Bacquet's optimized 1024KB configuration for Doom 2's music. Simulates playing with -file gus1mIId.wad. jaydmx.cfg - Jaydee's optimized 1024KB configuration for Doom 2's mustic. Simulates playing with -file jaydmx.wad. ht_gus1m.cfg - Tom Klok's optimized 1024KB configuration for Heretic's music. Simulates playing with -file ht_gus1m.wad. * Copyright / Permissions * I claim no copyright on any of this.
