Please note that I've tried to keep the difficulty settings the same as those in the actual game maps, so "easy" is *very* easy, "normal" provides a bit of a challenge, and "hard" and "nightmare" are extremely difficult. The level is intended to be played on "nightmare" as that will provide the most entertainment. The map has been played multiple times on all difficulty settings, with no cheating, and *is* possible. The level has been designed with strategy in mind, so it's critically important to find the right way of approaching each area. The "berserker" approach will rarely work, if ever. To play this level, extract the file "pak0.pak" into your Quake directory and then start the game using the command "QUAKE -GAME ." (without the quotation marks). Type "MAP EPOCH" at the console and you'll find yourself on a small, simple map with four teleports, one for each difficulty setting. Walk through one of the teleports and you'll be taken to The Guardhouse. * Copyright / Permissions * This level may be distributed via any medium (ie: Internet, BBS, CD-ROM, compilation disk) as long as it maintains the name GUARD.BSP and is supplied in a zip file called GUARD.ZIP that also includes this text document and no other files.
