20th August 1999 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Title : Arena In The Sky Filename : skyrena3.bsp Author : Ross Lombardi Aka : Mystiq Email Address : mystiq@optonline.net Home Page : None :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Play Information * You just need the registered version of Quake 2, and an OpenGL accelerator, as this map makes my PII300 with a Voodoo 3 go like Quake 3 would provided it had a software mode, ie, SLOW. This is my first attempt at a map that might be actually fun to play, it was sparked when i heard of NeuralBot (http://www.botepidemic.com/neuralbot), as i wanted a map that would train them bots as fast as possible. I made another map, that did the job nicely, but sadly, it started to run extremely bad. Please note this is probably not the best map to train them on, as i dont know of any other maps with this purpose, but even so, this map is a blast to play with 3 people. But again, it plays like a Quake 3 map, dont expect it to run as smooth as your average Quake 2 map. This map is just one big room, but its nothing like q3test2 for Quake 3, you cannot always see your opponent and there's no BFG to spoil that. It's separated by various pieces of architecture and the lighting in various sections makes it harder to see your opponent depending on where you are. There is plenty of armor to keep everyone going, weapons and health. I was going to add more, but the resulting number of entities caused a constant overflow. Convenient camping spots have been made useless because the floor is slick, ie, you'll slide right off the platforms, and it makes it more fun to fight on them :) If you want, there is a short demo included in the zip of me playing two Eraser bots. Single Player : No Cooperative : Hell no Deathmatch : Yes (2 - 6 recommended, but there are loads of deathmatch starts) Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Shareware Worldcraft 1.6b Build Time : About 2 days to finalize, 900 some seconds to compile Known Bugs : It run extremely slow when run in software mode, which is probably because of the almost excessive use of transparent textures, and the size of the arena itself. You may notice a sligh lag when there is only one player, but it effectively disappears when another player joins. * Copyright / Permissions * Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
