3D Ground

3D Ground is a QUAKE 2 map generator for fast and easy generation of irregular floors, walls and ceilings.
You can use a 256 grey scale image as a heightfield to define the vertical map coordinates. After playing with some parameters just save the QUAKE 2 map to add it to your level or use it as a prefab.

The program is freeware and runs under Windows 95/NT 4.0.




Map Parameter

  • Field X
    Number of fields on the map in x-direction.
  • Field Y
    Number of fields on the map in y-direction.
  • Z hi
    Highest field on the map (QUAKE units).
  • Z lo
    Lowest field on the map (QUAKE units).

    After changing one of the values above you will have to click the preview button to reflect the changes.

Field Parameter

  • Units X
    Horizontal extent of a single field in x-direction (QUAKE units).
  • Units Y
    Horizontal extent of a single field in y-direction (QUAKE units).
  • Units Z
    Vertical extent of a single field (QUAKE units).

    The fields in the preview have a fixed extend. The parameters above are only used for the final map.


Heightfield

  • File
    The selected heightfield file must be an uncompressed Truevision Targa image with 8 bit color depth (grey scale image recommended).
    Dark pixels will cause lower, bright values higher field positions.
  • interpolate image
    Interpolation will cause smooth vertical differences between adjacent fields.

Texture

  • Name
    Some predefined pathes for QUAKE-textures are already given. If you want to use a different texture, just type the complete path in.

    Textures are not used for preview. This parameter is only used for the final map.

Renders the preview image.


Generates the final map and displays a file dialog to save the map.


Just the about button.


Closes the dialog.
