====================================== = Assimilation: Resistance Is Futile = ====================================== http://www.captured.com/digitalpaint/assim ============================================================================================ Authors: ======== * WarZone, and Calrathan of Digital Paint (soon to be known as Digital Creations) @ http://www.captured.com/digitalpaint * Hump of Paint Ball Central @ http://www.captured.com/pbc ============================================================================================ Introduction: ============= Enter the world of Assimilation: a waring world dominated by four advanced races, fighting for dominance. Each race, or team, is designated by a colored glow surrounding the player's body. Your objective: assimilate all enemy players. You assimilate an enemy by killing him any way necessary. Upon death, the player's essence is converted to your team color and joins the battle for your team. Each time you assimilate someone, they are placed in your chain of command. If a player in under your command earns a kill, you recieve a bonus point, and that newly assimilated player is added to your chain of command as well. When only one team remains, the match ends, and everyone is randomly, yet evenly, redevided into teams for another bout. ============================================================================================ Day Light Simulator: ==================== In Assimilation, the game progresses from day to night over a server defined period of time. When it starts to get dark, you'll automatically turn on your trusty flash light (provided you havent manually disabled it) so you can still find your way around. This adds an extra layer of strategy to the game as well as a bit of "realism", if you can consider an ten minute time span equivalent to a full twenty four hour day that is :) Server can control the day length with this cvar: day # - where # is the number of mins represent equal a 24 hour day. NOTE: Setting this cvar to zero will turn off the day light simulator. ============================================================================================ Scoring: ========== In Assimilation, there are three new types of score tracking: * Assims - total number of players you have successfully assimilated * Points - this is your current point tally, full explaination below... * Streak - the number of assimilations you have made in a row without dying Points are the frags of q2 DM, CTF, etc. You always gain at one least one point for assimilating an enemy, but you can earn significant bonuses too. For instance, if you are on a streak of 5+, you earn bonus points for each assimilation: Range | Bonus points earned per assimilation ----------------------------------------------- 5 - 9 = +1 10 - 14 = +2 15 - 19 = +3 20 - 24 = +4 25+ = +5 If you kill someone who is on a high streak you can earn mass points instantly: Range | Bonus points earned per assimilation ----------------------------------------------- 5 - 9 = +5 10 - 14 = +10 15 - 19 = +15 20 - 24 = +20 25+ = +25 In addition to the previously mention bonuses, you can earn an instant +2 point bonus for assimilating someone with the blaster. So, if you've seriously injured your opponent, switching to the blaster to finish him off can bring you great rewards, but also leave you vulnerable to attack... On the other hand, let's suppose that you have just killed a team mate, in this case you will recieve loose two points and recieve no bonus of any sort. Servers can disable friendly fire, so, you won't have to worry about this on servers that have friendly fire turned off. ============================================================================================ New Commands: ============= * "notint" - disables the slight team color tinting of your team color during game play. NOTE: this command will not eliminate the color fade ins after respawns. * "id" - toggles the player identification display on the HUD * "flashlight" - turns the flash light on and off; Default: On. ============================================================================================ New Cvars: ========== * "pointlimit" - ends the current map when a player has greater than X points * "fraglimit" - ends the current map when a player has greater than X kills * "selfdamage" - when set to zero, this will prevent players from recieving damage from their own rockets, grenades, etc. Default: 1. * "day" - sets the number of mins in a quake2 "day" ============================================================================================ Recommened Server Settings: =========================== I, WarZone, recommend you start quake2 with this pasted in at the bottom of your server.cfg file: set day 5;set selfdamage 1;dmflags 16660 The day light sim mode isnt perfect yet, and it takes a while to get used to. So, for starters you might want to leave it off instead. Set selfdamage 1 prevents a rocket jump fest... and dmflags 16660 turns off friendly fire, turns on quad drop, etc. ============================================================================================ Copyright 1998 (C) Digital Creations.
