This is the ModelServerPMPv3.0 readme file. This package represents a complete baseq2/players directory. It was put together with quake2 servers in mind, although players will probably want to get it too. Servers may want to advertise that they have the Model Server PMP v3.0. You could do this under hostname or a rule called model_server_version (I'm not sure how that is done.) This package was made to allow everyone to use the player made models downloading feature of quake version 3.15 and later without hurting gameplay. A few notes on what wasn't included: 1. Black skins. This took a while, but I believe all the excessively dark skins are gone. 2. Quake2 model conversions. Usually the animations on these were messed up and they didn't fit the bounding box well either. An exception is guard. 3. Models with errors. I fixed as many weapons as possible (quite a few). A few models still were buggy though. 4. Models that don't fit the bounding box. This includes quite a few of the "big name" models. I like some of them, but they are either too small or too big. Either way gives the players using them an undeserved advantage. The models removed include: blob(off center) bug cheese freak greengoblin grey hover lego mario reaper sailormercury snork tentacle zork 5. Models with too many polygons weren't included. They also give the player using them an unfair advantage. 6. jpegs, gifs, frameskins, and other extraneous files were removed. Also, I changed all the filenames to lowercase only and made all the timestamps equal. Finally, quake2 is a little buggy when it comes to HUGE player directories like male. If you're browsing through male, and it crashes/stops on you, try going to the skin just before it crashes and quit quake. Come back in and continue from that point. It's a hack, but it's worked for me. The package was zipped for the sake of linux servers. The files should be unzipped in your quake2 directory. It is perfectly possible to delete your baseq2/players directory and replace it with this one. I have lost some of the credits for the model/skin authors. Apologies to those whose work made this package possible. There are probably many good skins I have not been aware of. On the other hand I am pretty certain I have seen and considered every model made... Enjoy! Hustler [FRUz] hustler@rhk.dk www.rhk.dk/users/hustler www.rhk.dk/~quake
