If you have One Whole Unit, you will not be able to use the 3DFX patch for Blood. Nowhere on the box does it say that One Whole Unit can be used with a 3DFX card. The 3DFX.EXE patch is for the 1.0 version of Blood only, not the 1.21 version of One Whole Unit. Please do not try and install the patch as you will only mess up your game.
Here is the fix for running the Blood 3DFX patch with less than 64 megs or RAM. Right-click on the 3DFX.exe file and then choose properties. Click on the MEMORY tab at the top. At the bottom of the screen is a value called "MS-DOS Protected Mode". In that field, type in "65535" and then click "OK". Now, just double-click on the 3DFX.exe file to start the game and play!
Please keep in mind that this is an Alpha Patch, and that the Voodoo RUSH chipset and the Voodoo 2 chipset are NOT supported and may not work. Good luck!
If you receive an error message that says, "fatal error: unable to load Glide DLL", you need to get the GLIDE2X.OVL file that is included in the 2.43 runtime drivers from 3DFX. Go to: http://www.3dfx.com/docs/glide_sdk_win/glide_sdk_win.html and then download and install the G2SDK.EXE file to solve your problem. Re-download the file even if you already have it.
Please keep in mind that this is an Alpha Patch, and that the Voodoo RUSH chipset and the Voodoo 2 chipset are NOT supported and may not work. Good luck!

To change the gamma settings you can use the "Options" menu, or you can also change the 3DFX gamma settings by changing the environment variable BUILD_GAMMA. To do that, click on START, PROGRAMS and MS-DOS PROMPT. Then change to your Blood directory and type:
set BUILD_GAMMA=0.9
You can use different numbers to suit your tastes like 0.7, or 0.85. The lower the number, the darker the screen.
Please keep in mind that this is an Alpha Patch, and that the Voodoo RUSH chipset and the Voodoo 2 chipset are NOT supported and may not work. Good luck!

For some reason, your 3DFX card isn't flushing the old textures to make room for the new ones. For now, there's not much I can do about it. You may want to ask your 3D card company if they have any information about this. Good luck!

There isn't going to be a new patch, at least for a while. We agreed to help make the 3DFX patch if 3DFX would convert the Build Engine so that it could run on a Voodoo 1 chipset. We've done all that we can with the current version of the Build Engine that they have provided for us. In order to make a new patch, we need a new version of the game engine from 3DFX, and so far, they haven't provided one to us.

The Voodoo 2, Voodoo RUSH, Banshee and Fusion cards are not supported. That means it may not work at all for you. Blood 3DFX patch needs a Voodoo 1 card to work correctly. There is nothing I can do for you here, but you can look through the Blood Forum and see if anyone with these card have been able to get the patch to work.
Don't expect another patch. The game engine is so old that making a patch just for the Voodoo 1 card was stumping the guys at 3DFX! To try and make the patch work with the Voodoo 2 was more work than 3DFX wanted to do, so it is not being supported. We've moved on to other newer game like Shogo and Blood 2 which will support any card that uses D3D.
Try this batch file sent in by Blood fan, Mike Shaw! Place the batch file (BLOODGAM.BAT) on the C:\ drive and then go into your blood folder on the C:\ drive and right click 3dfx.exe. (Assuming you downloaded the 3DFX patch) Click on the Properties tab and then Program Tab and where it says batch file, enter in the path. Click the memory tab and then where it says at the bottom, MS-DOS protected-mode (DPMI) memory, change the total to 65535 and then apply. Now, go back into Blood folder and delete the Tx3dfx sub-folder. Make sure your resolution is set to 640x480 and then turn your "in-game" gamma all the way down. Finally, launch Blood by clicking on the 3DFX.exe file and see if that helps!

You have the European version of Blood. The patch you are using will only work on the US 1.0 version of Blood. For some reason, Eidos UK decided to release Blood at version 1.02 and not the original 1.0. That decision has been causing problems for all of Europe, because now nobody who bought a UK version of Blood can use our patches. You may want to see if you can trade-in your UK version for a US version.

Your modem must be able to be used in DOS mode. Some modems out right now can only be used while in Windows. These modems are called Win-modems. If you have a Win-modem, you will not be able to use your modem with Blood.
If you have a DOS modem, make sure that your modem is not using an IRQ of 9 or higher. Blood cannot support those higher IRQ's. You may need to change the IRQ setting on your modem if you have a high IRQ.
Choose to use a Hayes compatible modem and then make sure you're connecting at the 9600 baud setting and that error compression, data compression and flow control are turned off. Also, use the default AT&F1 initialization string for your modem.
Lastly, we have a new 1.11 patch available now! The 1.11 patch solves a lot of multi-player and network-related issues. Download the new patch at our web site to solve your problem. Read the PATCH.TXT file on our web site for a full listing of what the patch fixes. Make sure that all computers used have the same version of the game! Also, keep in mind that applying a patch to Blood will destroy your saved games and you'll have to start over from the beginning. Keep checking our web site for the latest!
Possible Workaround from Dman, cyphrr57@yahoo.com: What I did, since I have 98SE, was to set up a Dial-Up Server connection, under Dial-Up Networking. I think you can have Dial-Up Server in Win95x if you have PLUS installed. Go to "Network" under Control Panel, and add the IPX/SPX protocol and bind it to the Dial-Up Adapter. Then in the IPX/SPX protocol properties, chang the Frame Type to 802.3. The other network components that were added was Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Print sharing.
After that, have the other user(s) set up a Dial-Up Networking connection on their end. Just in case, make it so that your Workgroup name was the same. After that, when you dial out for the first time, just enter anything for User Name, and leave the Password blank.
Set up as the server and wait for the call. When you connect, go to Find Computer under the Start Menu, and the other computer name should there. Now, you both need to go to the Blood Setup, and selected the Network Game, then launch the game.

Check your CONFIG.SYS file and look at your FILES and BUFFERS. You will want it to read, FILES=80 and BUFFERS=50. Change it to these numbers if the number is smaller, or add the lines in if it's not listed. This should help with your problem. Keep checking our web site for the latest info. J
First, you need to open your CONFIG.SYS file. You can find the file in your root C directory. Double-click to open the file. Once the file is open, you'll need to change these lines or add them anywhere to your CONFIG.SYS:
FILES=80
BUFFERS=50
Once these lines are entered, close the CONFIG.SYS file and save the changes. Now, re-boot and start Blood. That should fix your problem!

Make sure you installed the Tools into your Blood directory and then apply the latest patch to upgrade your Tools and game at the same time. Both the editor and the game have to be the same version or you'll receive errors. Good luck!
It sounds like you have the Special Edition of Blood. Try this to fix your problem. Uninstall Blood and delete the Blood directory. Go to our web site and download the Bloodless patch (special1.exe) and the 1.11 patch (r0011.exe). Install Blood and apply the Bloodless patch. Now, apply the 1.11 patch and run your setup program. Also, if you use the level editor, make sure your Tools are installed into your Blood directory and then apply the latest patch to upgrade your Tools and game at the same time.
If you are running the Plasma Pack, you should not have to worry about the special1.exe patch. You have to install the Plasma Tools from the Plasma CD, not the Tools off the Blood CD. Once you have installed the Tools off the correct CD, make sure to apply the pCD11.exe patch to the game so that you have the freshest Blood. See if that helps you out!

Blood uses a special 3D sound when you grab the Reflective Shot power-up and when you go underwater. Some soundcards, the Ensoniq in particular, doesn't react well to the sound. That card will react so badly to the 3D sounds, whether on or off, that it sometimes causes the game to crash. After exhaustive testing with the Ensoniq/SoundBlaster PCI sound cards, we will not be able to solve your problem with a patch. Your sound card has to be 100% compatible with the SoundBlaster standard, or you will receive problems. The Ensoniq sound cards and the SoundBlaster PCI sound cards are, unfortunately, not compatible. The only way to get around this, is to use another sound card. Keep checking our web site for the latest info.

To start a User Map, make sure the map is installed in your Blood directory and then click on START, then PROGRAMS, then MS-DOS PROMPT. Now, go to the Blood directory and type this:
Blood (name of the map, (no extension))
This should start that map in a single player game.
You also have to make sure that the version of the map and the version of your game are the same or you will not be able to play the map. For example, you cannot use a map made with the 1.02 version of the editor on a 1.11 version of the game.

If you want to play multi-player maps, you need to have the exact same map installed in the Blood directory of each computer that will be used. Then start the game and you will be able to select your map by using the in-game map menu that has the regular levels and the Bloodbath levels.
Also, make sure that the map you are using, and Blood, are of the same version. You can't use a map made with a 1.02 version of the Tools, with a 1.11 version Blood. The versions have to be the same.

IRQ/DMA Soundcard/Modem Problems
Blood can not use an IRQ of 9 or higher as the DOS4G program we use for the game will not support those higher IRQ's. You'll need to try and set your IRQ to a lower setting and try again.
To change your IRQ or DMA, try this...click on MY COMPUTER-CONTROL PANEL-SYSTEM. Click the DEVICE MANAGER tab. Go down to the Sound/game devices and find your sound card. Click once on your sound card to highlight it and then choose PROPERTIES. Now click on the RESOURCES tab and you will see the IRQ, DMA, Address for your sound card. Click once on the Interrupt Request and then uncheck the Use Automatic Settings box and choose Change Settings. Finally, try and pick a new IRQ that is lower than 9 and is NOT being used by another device. Now, do the same for the DMA. If you can find a free IRQ or DMA number, choose it and re-boot your computer to make the change. If this doesn't work for you, you'll need to call up the people who made your sound card and have them walk you through the change.

SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S
C:\SB16\SB16SET /P /Q
For an AWE32, add:
C:\SB16\AWEUTIL /S

The MPU-401 error refers to the chip on your sound card necessary for audio playback. Blood does not generate the error you mentioned, however the sound library we use might. My guess is that:
1) Blood's SETUP is configured wrong for the sound card, or
2) your sound card is not configured correctly, or
3) you have a defective sound card. Try this to solve your problem, turn your computer totally OFF, wait about 5-10 seconds, and then turn it back on again. Delete the BLOOD.CFG file from your game's directory, then run the SETUP.EXE program again and try reselecting your music/SFX.
This error is caused by picking the incorrect settings during the setup of Blood. If you pick the wrong settings for an AWE32, you need to power down and retry, not just reboot. Refer to your sound card manuals for the correct configuration for you to use.

So, if you have an enemy in front of you and enemies behind him, the Doll will inflict damage on the nearest enemy until the enemy is killed, or the power in the Doll is used up. Any extra power would then be directed at the next closest enemy, and so on.

Try making a boot disk to solve your problems! Insert a blank diskette into drive A:
At the C:\> prompt, type FORMAT A: /S, then press [Enter]. (this will format the disk in drive A and copy "command.com" and the 2 system files to the disk making it bootable)
Now, you need to add the necessary files to complete the Boot disk. The following are sample config.sys and autoexec.bat files with support for a CD-ROM drive, A sound card, a mouse, and extended memory.
Config.sys:
Go to a DOS prompt and type EDIT CONFIG.SYS and then enter the stuff below.
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=[your CD-ROM driver]
DEVICEHIGH=[your sound card driver]
DOS=HIGH,UMB
FILES=80
BUFFERS=50
Now, press ALT, F, X and Y to save your file.
Autoexec.bat:
Back at the DOS prompt again, type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and enter in the stuff below.
PROMPT $P$G
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T3 (assuming your sound card is a Sound Blaster)
SET PATH=C:\;C:\DOS
LH C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE (usually the mouse driver is found here)
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:[drive name of CD-ROM driver in config.sys] /M:20
Now, press ALT, F, X and Y to save your file.
Re-boot your computer with the new boot disk in the drive and see if that helps! Remember that these are only sample files. Edit your current Config.sys and Autoexec.bat to contain only the lines that resemble the ones in these samples. Also, some sound cards and CD-ROM drives will require additional lines from your original files. Refer to your hardware manuals for more information.

The crash you are receiving may be due to memory limitations. Try this just before you end the second level (E1M2), turn off all the sound effects and music in the game, set your display to the lowest possible settings, and then hit the exit switch to go to E1M3. As soon as you begin, turn around and face the train. Wait for about 30 seconds, until the train hits the three enemies, and then jump up and destroy the light above you. Enter the train car and defeat the enemy in the next car. Now, save your game so that you will not have to do all this again, and you should be able to set everything back to normal and continue your game. This level is a HUGE level, and can really drain your resources on your computer. By setting everything down to the minimum settings, you are freeing memory that can be used by the game, and by destroying the lights and enemies, you are helping the game because it no longer has to keep track of those things anymore. Also, make sure that you have the latest 1.2 version of Blood.
