============================================================================== Oh noo, its another version of The Fortress!! (This is the last one, I promise!!) ============================================================================== Title : The Fortress V1.3 Filename : fortv13.map (fortv13.zip) Author : Mats Blixt Email Address : mats.blixt@mailbox.swipnet.se Misc. Author Info : This is my first attempt at a Duke level. I am currently working on at least 3 other maps. But I havent got that much spare time to build. So this is still my first map to be released. Description : This is a dukematch level, for at least 4 players. It has got a very high sneak factor. The idea behind the level is to divide the players into two teams. One of the teams is supposed to attack the fort and activate the reactor self destruct. While the other team defends it. To be able to activate the self destruct you must first enable it, by finding and pressing the "enable self-destruct" switch. Once pressed it will reveal the destruct button in the reactor room. Changes in V1.2: - I have changed some textures. - Added a few more sprites. - Enlarged the service access area. - Added a new user sprite. - Inserted an airduct in the officers quarters. - Some shading were improved. - I moved some rooms to make the sound effects come from the right directions. Changes in V1.3: - Fixed some small but irritating bugs. - Added two more areas and some more sneaky secrets. - Fiddled with textures and sprites some more. - Moved the moat underwater area so that the underwater sounds will come from the right directions. - I have added a Nuke button. So that the attacking team can escape from the fort. - Removed or changed some userart and sound. - This IS the final version of this map. I am now quite happy with it! Besides it can't get any larger, I am running out of sectors! And the map keeps crashing on me all the time when I try to add sectors. Additional Credits to : Dan Santos (for ideas, playtesting and being a sneaky team player), Mikael Åhman & Mikael Blohm (for being such worthy DukeMatch opponents), Mathias Simsson (for playtesting and always trying to crash my level), Brett Gmosser (for his excellent FAQ). Computer Requirments : This map has been constructed on my 80MHz 486 with 32MB ram. And it runs with a decent frame rate. Except for the outdoor part of the level(courtyard). I havent tested it on any slower machinnes. But I suppose that minimum would be 66MHz and 8MB ram. Build Time : The first version of this map took about two months. Since then I have been adding stuff continously. I have lost track of time =) Installation : Just unzip the files in your duke3d directory. If you have any voc or art files in your duke dir. Remeber to back them up before you install this map. Since it contains new graphics and sounds. Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : Yes New Graphics : Yes New Music : No New Programming : No Demos Replaced : None * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Build, EditArt, Artview, Cool edit, Photoshop, Photopaint Known Bugs : There are some bad sectors in the start room (courtyard). This was the first thing I built. It shouldnt be noticeable when you play. But if you try to alter theese sectors in build, STRANGE things happen. This is also why this part of the level doesnt look so good. Crap shading and shadows! I simply do not dare to try and change anything. But if you would like to see Build crash in some interesting ways, then load up the map in build and try to move some of the tower sectors. Sometimes when you load the map in Build or Duke. The courtyard area will freak out completely. It seems that the actual file is being corrupted by either Duke or Build!? The only way to solve this, is to reinstall the map file. If anyone out there knows why this happens sometimes, please mail me. I have seen it happen with other maps as well. It almost drove me crazy when I constructed the new area!! Still, as I said, it shouldnt affect game play. But if you do find any other bugs, please e-mail me. * Where to get this map * http://www.elitegames.com/ (The only Duke site you need!) * Copyright / Permissions and stuff * You may alter and spread this map anyway you want, as long as it is NOT for comercial use and that this text file is included, unaltered.
