All the information in this text file is available online at my website www.dukeworld.com/ctf ====================================================================== ======== CONTENTS ======== 1. What is "Duke CTF conversion" ? 2. Installation / Starting a new game 3. Gamplay changes 4. Level descriptions 5. Clans 6. Credits 7. Filenames 8. Other stuff ========================================= 1. WHAT IS "Duke CTF" ? ========================================= For a long time hardcore Dukers have been begging for a capture the flag style conversion for Duke Nukem 3d, the duke tag level in version 1.4 was a capture the flag style game but it was too difficult for most level builders to create levels for it due to the complexity of the gameplay. Many times attempts have been made to create a worthy CTF conversion yet all have failed, up until now. Duke CTF features: * Fast and exciting gameplay. * Teamplay and team colours. * Dukematch backwards compatability. * Four CTF enhanced levels plus two never seen before CTF levels. * Online support. * Level creating faq. * Weapons remain unchanged for original badass fragging. ===================================== 2. INSTALLATION / STARTING A NEW GAME ===================================== 1) Copy the file Dukectf.zip to your \Duke3d directory 2) Unzip the file Dukectf.zip 3) Run Dukectf.bat 4) After you have installed the conversion,'SETUP' to play dukematch CTF. All players must have Duke CTF installed in order to play the game. NOTE : All levels in version 1.2 are in episode 1 and 2 7) After some intense CTF play mail me at DUKECTF@hotmail.com to tell me what you think. Also feel free to build some levels and send them to me so I can put them on the site ( please DO NOT change any con hacks or artwork ). ======================== 4. GAMEPLAY DESCRIPTION ======================== There are a few changes made to the normal gameplay of Duke; ======== Teamplay ======== This can be used in both normal deathmatches and CTF games. It is pretty simple, just tap the spacebar ( or the door opening key ) to get to the right color then duck and press space to lock it. This changes the color of the pants that your player is wearing. This distinguishes which team you are on but unfortunately must be done every time your player is respawned. NOTE: The spacebar must be tapped or the color will flicker and you may not get it changed to the right color. === CTF === The boots in the inventory are replaced by a blue flag and the steroids are replaced by the red flag. Players of either team ( blue or red ) can pick up either flag but they can also drop it. To drop the blue flag use weapon 1 ( kick ) this automatically drops the flag. To drop the red flag you must press 'R' on the keyboard. When a player has a flag you can instantly know by looking as smoke appears just by their feet.A Blue smoke trail appears for a player with the blue flag. Red smoke for a player with the red flag and white for a player with both flags. If a player is killed he/she will automatically drop any flags he/she is carrying. Also when a player is frozen by the freeze thrower he/she will drop the flags he/she was carrying. Once a flag is dropped it will be transparent for about 1 second, during this time it is not possible to collect the flag. After that it will become fully visible and it will then be possible to collect the flag again. When you have a flag you must return to your base and hit the spacebar( or the door opening key ) when you are in front of the black screen. This will take away the flag and a sound will be heard all over the map ( Duke saying game over and a crowd cheering ) indicating that one team has won. WARNING: You must select a team before collecting a flag, if not you will die. ========================== 4. LEVELS ( EPISODES 1+2 ) ========================== Episode 1 "Duke CTF User Maps" 1. CTF Forts ( Bryan Holguin ) A traditional CTF level. 8 players Two large forts divided by a grassy area with trenches, the flags are in the other team's fort so long runs are inevitable by each team, good for large amounts of players! The first CTF level I ever recieved from a user. 2. Block War CTF ( Eric Marley ) A small city block. 8 players Grab a jetpack to take out the other teams in an enclosed block. The building looks like the scene of homicide, when the ctf matchers come in it'll be genocide! 3. Office War CTF ( Eric Marley ) Two large office buildings. 8 players Two large office buildings full of disgruntled workers, shall we settle this nicely? Find your base memorise its location and then get on with the killing!!!!!! 4. Lost Souls CTF. ( Kross ) 8 players A secret government training complex hidden in America. Taken over for CTF the action is hot and heavy, 'dead bodies everywhere' seems so apt. 'Follow the leader' and lets 'Reclaim my place'. Say what, say what. Kross knows what I mean! 5. The CTF Warehouse. ( Rainmaker ) This disused warehouse may not be pretty but it's the ideal sparring ground for CTF matches. The wide open spaces ( big rooms ) and many routes mean this is wild!!! Episode 2 "Original Duke CTF Maps" 1. Flags 'n' Frags ( Mike Channell ) A small CTF level. 8 players. This level is set out in a rocky area. It is pretty small and although it can have up to eight players it is best with about 4 or 6. The two bases are connected by one corridor causing interesting fights between sentries. cAN NOW BE PLAYED AS A SINGLE OR MULTI FLAG GAME! 2. Arena of Doom ( Mike Channell ) A great little frag fest. 8 players. Another quite small level but with a lot of fun, in this arena there are no defined bases so anything goes. The water slide makes a great escape route. Several cool features make this enclosed level a must for dukematchers aswell as CTF players. New multi flag features! 3. Hollywood Holocaust ( 3d realms ) A converted version of e1l1. 8 players. The first level of the original Duke levels still retains it's old charm. The ctf matches are wild in this urban setting and again with no defined bases this is ideal for any number of players. 4. Run the Gauntlet ( Mike Channell ) A mad race to grab your flag. 2 players. A two player race to grab your flag and get it back to your base as quick as possible. For only two players this is fun for modem or serial play. 5. The Zoo ( 3drealms ) The Duke3d zoo level converted to CTF. 8 players This level came packaged on the original Duke Nukem 3d cd and is quite a good deathmatch level with good places to hide. The flags can be hidden in many places and the familiarity of the level should make it easy to pick up and play. Now multiple flag level! 6. The Cityscape ( Mike Channell ) Based on my first level ( don't worry, it's OK ) 8 players My first ever level is relatively large. With defined bases, the red one in a cinema and the blue one in the junkyard, this makes a great teamplay map aswell as a great cooperative ctf match. Pick your teams the get 'matching. Multiple flag play supported! 7. Air Mobility ( unknown ) a simple but effective idea, based on airmobil.map. 8 players. A large construction (building?) in the middle of this map means dethmatches are multi levelled affairs. The ingenious transport system just adds to the fun of this crazy deathmatcher. ========== 5. CLANS ========== If you want to start a clan then find four willing dukematchers who have the dukectf patch after that just fill in the registration form in the zip file and send it off to me. The address is DukeCTF@hotmail.com Your clan will be put on the site. A home level is needed for 'home' and 'away' games the most popular ones will be put in the next versions. You may build this level or just use one of the standard Duke CTF ones however only fair maps are accepted, ones heavily weighted in one teams favour will not be accepted. For Clan levels start rooms are mandatory. I could start a league table once enough clans are started, one for each server, however I would want truthful match reports. Any foul play and both clans would be liable to be disqualified from all leagues the clan would be able to start again but with no points. This would be a service to the ctf playing public however some rules would be needed here are some but mail your suggestions. ----- RULES ----- All games played on multiple flag maps. No shooting in start rooms. 4 player or less ( your funeral ) clans only. All player names must have their clan after eg Mighty7[wow] if they don't fit get a shorter name! All clan home levels must be sent to me for placing on my site. I'll mail you when a match for your clan is forecast but friendlies ( or grudge matches ) are allowed but will have no affect on league placing ( they will get a mention tho' ). Theme midis can be used ( heheheh ). You MUST mail results, your clan will not get their next fixture until they mail the results of the last game. The away team wears red. Each team plays twice in one season. For pay as you play servers be prepared to pay a lot of money per season, many clans will begin and therefore many games will be played. Once one season has finished a new one will be started pretty soon ( a few weeks ). The later you apply the later your fixtures will be. Games should be played as soon as possible, I don't want leagues dragging for years. Clans ideally will have websites, details will be stored on my site on dukeworld though aswell. League tables will be updated when I get the results, I check my mail almost every day. =========== 5. CREDITS =========== LOVE YOU ALL!!!! hehehehheh! ============= 6. See ya, Mike C ( Mighty 7 ) Smile :-) ====================================================================== /*65+ *******SUPER SECRET PLAYING TIPS******* These are the secrets of a good CTF player: Learn from experience where the flags are then you will be more effective. Pick up the other team's flag and drop it down some huge pit. Always remember, other players know when you have a flag. Don't try and drop a flag when shrunk, it will squish you. Exchange flags with other players on your team, give them to a good one to hold for a while. Decide teams on chat beforehand to avoid confusion. Go to my website.
