=========================================================================== Title : THE OTHER SIDE OF PHOBOS Date Finished : 12 March 2002 Author : Karthik Abhiram Email Address : karthik@newdoom.com Misc. Author Info : 19 year old Doomer from India, for more info see http://karthik82.tripod.com or http://www.newdoom.com/hosted/karthik Description : An Episode 1-inspired map, set on a lonely moonbase on Phobos. This is not a "pure" Knee-Deep style map though. Story : A few days have passed since the UAC deployed several teams of marines to Phobos to kill all the demons that invaded that base. What was being kept secret though, was that there was ANOTHER moonbase, on the other side of Phobos. This place also held a gateway to the other dimension, and for some reason, the UAC didn't want that fact to get out. The demons invaded this one too, and the UAC sent your team over there to clean out the base before it attracted too much attention to itself. Your team suffered the same fate as everyone else who set foot on Phobos... Now it's up to you to clean out the facility. It's pretty lonely this side of Phobos. Everyone you know is either dead, or was instantly zombified. What will you find at the end of this place? Other WADs by Author : ick.wad (Ultimate Doom) cpunch.wad (Ultimate Doom) ophase.wad (Doom II) ophase2.wad (Doom II) Additional Credits to : * My brother Varun for playtesting and useful feedback (thanks for telling me how to align that scrolling thing). * Josh Frazier (inferno_45) for the very cool music. * To everyone who has given me feedback on my levels, and feedback on the screenshots I posted on this one. * The authors of all tools used to make this level (including myself, for my home-brewed utility KWC.EXE :)). * Tobias Münch and Pablo Dictter - it was their recently released original-Doom-style levels that inspired me to make this in the first place! =========================================================================== * Type of DOOM or DOOM II file* New level WAD : Yes * Play Information * Episode and Level # : E1M1 Single Player : Yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : 4 Player Starts included, but not tested. Difficulty Settings : Yes New Sounds : No New Music : Yes - "Stalker" by Josh Frazier (inferno_45) http://inmusic.homestead.com - his Music Page http://infernodw.homestead.com - his WADs Page New Graphics : Yes (TITLEPIC, level name) Demos Replaced : None (demos welcome!) * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Build Time : A little more than a month, on and off Editor(s) used : DoomCAD 6.1 by Matt Tagliaferri - Editing BSP 5.0 by Colin Phipps - Node Building Wintex 4.3 by Olivier Montanuy - Putting the WAD file together XWE by Csabo - Cleaning up the WAD Paint Shop Pro 6.0 by Jasc Software - making the titlepic and the level name Karthik's WAD Changer - for making the level run on E1M1 (DoomCAD doesn't build levels that run on E1M1). Known Bugs : None May Not Run With... : Doom II, Doom 3, Quake 4... Kidding aside, this map is intended for plain old doom.exe so it should work well with a REGISTERED Doom version :) or any port. Tested with v1.9 and v1.666. Works great. If you are using v1.2 or something, some effects (bars that are raised with a keycard) won't work and the level will be unplayable. You should upgrade! * Additional Information * Music : The music used in this WAD was composed by Josh Frazier. I mentioned on my site that I was looking for a song that would go well with this level. I was thinking of using a MIDI file from Rise of the Triad maybe. But then Josh mailed me and said that he'd do the song, and I liked the one he sent me so it ended up in the WAD. Thanks Josh! Tools : I would like to take this opportunity to be gleeful at the fact that I used one of my own tools in building this level!! DoomCAD doesn't allow you to save a level on Episode 1 (for good reason, too, because you are not supposed to make WADs that work with the shareware Doom). So I used my KWC (Karthik's WAD Changer) to change the level id to E1M1. The level will not work with shareware Doom anyway, because there are plenty of non-shareware textures used in "hidden" places of the level. Additional Cool Stuff : Find all the secrets! Linedef 666 is marked with a candle, and linedef 1337 is also marked (candles form the number 1337 just to it's right) :) I also know that trees can't grow on Phobos, but there are trees on this level. Also, when I decided on the name of this level, I didn't know that Phobos was a very small moon - just 27 kilometres from end to end! So I guess there isn't much of an "other side" that hasn't already been seen in the original Doom, but anyway... * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
