But if you're reading this why do you need to know? ================================================================ AND NOW THE REALLY INTERESTING BIT:- If like me you enjoy reading the miscellaneous text attached to some wads then carry on reading. If you just want to have a go as a single player then copy the PWAD into your DOOM2 directory and type "DOOM2 -FILE GETOFF.WAD". You deathmatch bods may want to read on. The idea for this wad came to me while drinking a particularly sweet cup of tea one lunchtime (sugar you see). Having played a crippling number of pwads in my time, pausing only to wipe the blood from my eyes, it occurred to me that you never find one where each player gets his/her own patch to defend for the duration of the deathmatch. You've found one now! The wad is designed to work best as a four player match. Each player starts outside an (apparently) identical building, each with its own well stocked armoury. Once inside you defend your turf! If you're killed you get the opportunity to open the door directly in front of where you reappear and check whether the building is where you originally started (they're numbered conspicuously 1-4). If it isn't, leap off the platform into the water and run up the tunnel. The area where you teleport to has four further teleports numbered 1-4. Get the idea? Of course if you prefer you can use these teleports to mount a surprise attack on your opponents' buildings!!! To add a little spice to the proceedings, each building has a couple of unique hidden areas which offer advantages over the other three. Players in buildings 1 & 3 should watch their backs; those armouries aren't as secure as they first seem! Oh, I nearly forgot. There IS an exit (I hate pwads without an exit - the ritual humiliation of the frag count is essential) but because I'm a stickler for texture alignment it's well hidden. For those who don't want to know where it is skip this next bit... *** !moor tropelet eht ni s'tI *** As far as monsters are concerned, I placed quite a few in here for single players. The difficulty here is that players can access any area in any order, and this meant it was impossible to design a blast-fest finale! To make up for this the monsters are fairly thick on the ground whichever path you take, so mind how you go. It's not the toughest wad I've played but it is quite difficult. In deathmatch mode I recommend you set the -NOMONSTERS command parameter. When it came down to it all I wanted to do was blow my friends' heads off, you know it makes sense! Okay that's enough. Have fun, and if you have any comments bung them to my mate's E-mail address. I'll reply to everybody. - Doctor Doom PS: The best deathmatch I've EVER played is LEVEL.WAD by Eric Varner on 75460,612 compuserve. Eric, if you're out there drop us a line. What an awesome wad you've got! Every session we have starts with LEVEL.WAD. What a blast!
