August 27 1998 - June 30, 1999 ------------------------------------------------ FILE TITLE: deepend.bsp MAP TITLE: the Deep End (v.4) AUTHOR: Squonkamatic for the People!! EMAIL: snyland@earthlink.net URL: http://aqua.macquakeinfinity.com Hotline Server: 208.132.136.220:5555 AquaQuake Public QuakeWorld Server: 208.132.138.99:27515 DESCRIPTION: A battle through a deep, weapons laden holding tank at a resevior complex upstate. Lots of monsters for SP mode, and very rewarding AquaCombat for DM use - makes a great underwater "training" level. ------------------------------------------------ SINGLE PLAYER: yes - your mission is to clean the scum out of the tank and exit the level ( a patch of "sky" located at the top of the slime block on the far side of the tank, and guarded by a Vore) in one piece. COOPERATIVE ENGAGEMENT: no - "I work alone" DEATHMATCH: yes - 6 starts; Reaperbots love this map. NEW TEXTURES: no NEW MUSIC: Quake has music? QUAKE C: what's that? KNOWN BUGS: "funny lighting", too many entities ------------------------------------------------ EDITOR USED: JQT for the Mac!! BASE: new level from scratch BUILD TIME: 14 hrs (?) BRUSHES: 27 ENTITIES: 184 QBSP time: 58 seconds LIGHT: 45 seconds VIS: 118 seconds ----------------------------------------------- NOTES: Single player users will enjoy a multitude of things to shoot at, and as for deathmatch play there are enough biosuits handy so you can basically stay underwater indefinately. My best advice for working the exit is to grab a biosuit, hop on the platform in front of the slimeblock, step in and swm UP - step onto the top of the block, then turn around and jump up and over the slime mass; I made the exit trigger large enough so you should get it on your first try. I went back into the map after learning how to understand the 3d vectors while making "swamp" and "pond", and the result is a totally different feel to the map as well as a less haphazard placement of entities - I'm especially propud of the ogre on the highes sniper platform because he was running around on the floor in every other version I had. I'm also very pleased with the greenish glow that this level has from the combination of metal textures, water, the sky, the yellow glowing light globes and the blocks of emerald slime. Enjoy!! This level is dedicated to all of you who were booted off the swim team for smoking grass. You know who you are... Authors are hereby discouraged from using this level as a base for a new map.
