The Standard Plat - from The QuakeLab The QuakeLab - http://www.in2nett.com/stevefu/QuakeLab TEXTURES: No actual standard. Use PLAT_STEM for a military plat's support post. ENTITIES: func_plat WHAT TO DO: Make a flat rectaungular brush. This is the useful part of the plat. Make a tall brush which is smaller in diameter and position it under the flat brush. This is the support to make it look good. The brushes should be drawn so that they appear to be in the extended position. Select both brushes. Designate this pair of brushes a func_plat in one shot. This way they will move as a single unit. The plat moves down appropriately by its height - if you make only the flat brush, it will move down only by the thickness of the brush rather than going right to the floor. In that case, you would set the height to the height of the brush as if it were extended to the floor. PLATS MUST ALWAYS BE DRAWN IN THE EXTENDED POSITION! OPTIONS: You can make some fancy looking plats by multi-selecting collections of brushes and designating them as a single func_plat in one shot. Cages, that sort of thing. speed and sounds can be set to your liking. You might also want to put in stuff that makes sense, like tracks along the sides, a covering rim at the base for the support shaft like in the example file, etc.
