March 11, 1998 ======================================================================== * General Information * Title : Dark and Silly Filename : DarkSill.bsp Author : Hafhead (Tony Hafner) Email Address : hafhead@geocities.com Web Page : http://www.geocities.com/~hafhead Additional Credits to : id Software for such a great game Ben Morris for Worldcraft Geoffrey DeWan for his compile tools Daniel Proietti for Voila Description : Deathmatch Quake II Level There are two rooms connected by a pair of halls. Quads and weapons are scattered throughout the area. The rooms are very dark, with backlights against the walls a short distance up from the floor. This means that if you aren't quadded and are crouching, you are nigh invisible. Before dismissing this level, actually play it once with someone- if you just start a single player game and look around, it looks really lame. But give it a chance. ======================================================================== * Running the Map * Put DarkSill.bsp into your maps directory (Quake2\baseq2\maps). Run Quake2, and bring down the console (by pressing ~). At the console, type "map DarkSill". The game will start. For multiplayer games, start the game first. Then bring down the console and enter the map command. Each player must have the .bsp file in his/her map directory. ======================================================================== * Play Information * Single Player : Don't bother- there's nothing to kill Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes- 8 starts, good for 2 to 4 players Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No Demos Replaced : None * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Worldcraft, Voila, Wordpad Known Bugs : None Build Time : Under 2 hours Compile machine : PPro 200 with 32Mb QBSP3 Time : 3 seconds QVIS3 Time : 1 second QRAD3 -extra -bounce 40 : 198 seconds * Copyright / Permissions * This level may be distributed only over the Internet and/or BBS systems. You are NOT authorized to put this level on any CD or distribute it in any commercial way without my permission. It must be kept together with this text file intact. * Other Info * This is my third Quake 2 level. It was intended as a minor distraction- I didn't expect a whole lot of play value out of it, but actual play was way more fun than I imagined. The basic premise is a pair of rooms with a few weapons and a mess of quads scattered around. It is very dark, with lights only against the walls. If you duck and don't fire, you become practically invisible, so you are left with a choice- do I take a quad or not? One choice means you glow like mad, and the other means you live for a few seconds. I am brought back to the days of Doom- where the levels were simple, but fun. It takes no time to learn the layout and weapon placement. Just drop in and frag to your heart's content. The first time I playtested it, I laughed my ass off the whole time- and we all liked it so much I didn't change a thing. I would not recommend this over the internet, because lag would probably make it totally unplayable. ======================================================================== * Past Projects * If you like this level, you may want to see some of my other projects.
