=============================================================================== Title : The Cauldron Filename : gromdm2.BSP Version : 01/08/99 Author : Robert McLachlan Alias : Grom Email Address : grom@the-asp.demon.co.uk Other maps by author : Links.bsp / grom_dm1 - avoid! Description : Hmm, think q2dm8 crossed with q2dm3, q2dm6 and q2dm4. This map is meant to be 'different' - aren't all those waste-type levels so tedious? Well, they're nice, but not very pretty. Cauldron is a map that's meant to look nice - I hope you agree. It's also got a fair amount of fairly advanced jumps and things to negotiate, though no doubt others will find better jumps than the ones I intended. It's also got a fair number of weapons - two RLs, two RGs, and even a BFG for the serious masochists amongst you. I sort of designed this map with an eye on 4v4 teamplay - I hope it will provide an interesting challenge, with the major weapons and items spread about so no one team will easily dominate the map. Subsequent tactics may prove me wrong, however. What else... Oh yes, there's a quad, two CGs, two HBs, a Red Armour, a Megahealth and... a Pent. Teamplay is essential to get this, unless you're a rocket monkey. Just don't fall off the cart... Oh yeah - and watch out for the earthquake :P Additional Credits to : Robert Duffy for QERadiant Geoffrey DeWan for GDDQVIS and GDDQBSP Tim Wright for the stunning Arghrad 2.0 - Cauldron is MADE by this utility. Far too long, to be honest - months :) The map went through several complete overhauls... Incidentally, this is version 1.1, as the first had some trigger timing errors. Compile Time (approx) : QBSP - 32 seconds QVIS - 2640 seconds ARGHRAD - 8497 seconds - damn Arghrad ;) on a Celeron 450a with 128Mb RAM Editor used : QERadiant v147 Known Bugs : Generally high r_speeds - sorry! All that beauty comes at a price... Shouldn't be too bad though; about the same general experience as q2dm8 or qtctf5 :P May be a bit dark for some... try gl_modulate 2 (or 3) and then issuing a vid_restart. Couple of very minor texture misalignments. Also the button textures don't seem to want to animate :( I think the map got slightly corrupted somewhere. I got a couple of leaf-portal errors during VIS - I know they're bad, but I couldn't track them down :( Gladiator bots do NOT like the bumpy floor in the main chamber. They tend to just stand there like monkeys :/ * How to use this level * Unzip the files into Quake2/baseq2/maps then type 'map grom_dm2' at the console. * Copyright / Permissions * Copyright by me, so there. You can't make money out of this map without asking me - and though I would be amused to see it on one of those level collection CDROMs, you still have to ask me first. * Info about where to get this map etc. * I think the WMG has gone to the big webserver in the sky, but the KC Clan website has lots of interesting stuff: http://www.gaznet.co.uk/kc Check out the gallery, and send me a crappy picture :)) It also holds grom_dm1 and maps made by other KC ppl ;) Hope you enjoy this map, and may the lava be kind to you :P
