For the Eraser bot, place the smgdm1.rtz file into your c:\quake2\eraser\routes\ directory, and follow the previous instructions. * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Worldcraft - http://www.worldcraft.com/ Known Bugs : Two spots that have very minor grey flash, hardly noticeable, ;) Build Time : a little over 2 weeks Textures used : Mostly from e1u2 and e1u3 Compile machine : pII233 with 48megs QBSP Time : 12 seconds QVIS Time (-level 4) : 57 seconds QRAD Time (-extra) : 1277 seconds Solids : 617 Faces : 3702 PointEntities : 281 SolidEntities : 16 * Notes * This level was loosely inspired by Boston University's new School of Management (SMG) building... and I mean LOOSELY. The most recognizable part is the giant atrium with brick textures, which is the focus of the design, a very simple "arena" style killing jar with nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide (unless you're crazy... crazy like a fox ;). I wanted to create something playable that also carried a strong resemblance to the original building. Unfortunately this pushed a lot of design decisions away from some playability... particularly in regard to r_speeds. Low r_speeds is one of the most basic keys to great dm levels, and this one skirts on the edge; apologies to all the low-end folk out there. R_speeds hover in the low 400's, hit the fives from time to time, and there's two spots where it passes 600, but it's still pretty damned playable. In this map, I tried to play around with the projectile vs. hitscan encounters, as well as encouraging chase sequences in the vast spaces of SMG; I hope everyone has an enjoyable experience with it, even if it's just to clear the railing in a leap from the fourth floor (ahh, aren't suicidal tendencies fun). PLEASE send me feedback... help me shape future versions of the SMudGe! There are many more permutations of this style (gameplay, and visual style) planned, and will appear as time allows (as much as I'd like to, I can't do this full time... yet ;) so opinions on every aspect are very welcome, including comments on the whole r_speeds issue. Enjoy, and love your fellow beings. keep the faith, whatever it may be * Copyright / Permissions * This level is (c) 1998 Christian Cummings.
