Wisp version 1.0 by Iikka Paavolainen (ipaavola@cc.hut.fi) ========================================================== The wisp is a flying bot (that resembles a lava ball due to a lack of a more accurate model) that you can summon and banish at will, freeze/unfreeze, recall, and even ride with! It will attack other players and monsters that it sees, and hunt semi-intelligently for targets when none are near. The flight logic/intelligence was my main interest when I begun coding this. The following impulses are used: 100 Summon/banish wisp Creates/destroys the wisp. There can be only one wisp per player. 101 Recall wisp Teleports the wisp to your current position 102 Freeze/unfreeze wisp Freezes the wisp into its current location. In this state the wisp will not even attack. 103 Ride wisp/drop off This is a complete hack (although a working one) gaming-wise and was made only for visualization of the flight path. The wisp grabs you to itself, wherever you happen to be, and drags you behind itself through the air. You can look around and fire your weapons in the same way as when you are on the ground. The wisp drags you through any hole it passes through itself like you were made of putty. Using impulse 103 while you are hitching a ride drops you down from your current place. If you are partly within an obstacle while using this, Quake will automatically move you to a suitable free space. Installation ------------ To install, do the usual: 1. unzip the files to a subdirectory within the quake directory (e.g. c:\quake\wisp) 2. make a new temporary subdirectory under this directory (e.g. c:\quake\wisp\temp), to which you copy the Quake C v1.01 files 3. copy the contents of the wisp directory to this temporary directory, overwriting the previous files 4. run qcc in this temporary directory 5. remove (with deltree for example) the temporary directory 6. run quake like so: 'quake -game wisp', if the directory name was 'wisp' Please send any comments, suggestions, improvements etc. you can think of to me (address at top of this document).
