EJECT! A Quake C Modification by Steve Bond Email: wedge@nuc.net Visit QUAKE COMMAND! http://www.nuc.net --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eject is a fairly simple modification that makes the Shotgun and Double Barrel Shotgun eject shell casings (VERY cool.) Nothing really technical about this one, I made this patch because there were two new things I wanted to try to work with - Custom MDL files, and PAK files. As far as models go, the Shotgun Shell is just a cylinder mapped with a texture I painted for it. Working with PAK files was much easier than I'd expected. (Thanks to Tom Wheeley for XPAK - excellent tool.) The PROGS.DAT file, the Shotgun Shell model, and the Clatter sound effect are all stuffed into one pak file. Makes things a lot easier to set up. Speaking of... Installation: ------------- 1) Make a directory in your QUAKE directory called EJECT 2) Copy the PAK0.PAK from this archive into your EJECT directory. 3) Start Quake by typing "QUAKE -GAME EJECT" 4) Fire your shotgun once or twice. Better yet, go find a double barrel. Notes: ------ This is primarily to make multiplayer games more engrossing, if you are forced to play with this patch in single play mode, mouselook towards the ground and fire the shotgun, you'll get a pretty good idea of the effect. Shells will stick around for 20 seconds, then disappear. Known Problems: --------------- Uh. Between the time that I painted the texture and it got mapped onto the shell and thrown into the game, it looked a little more orange than the original red. :( (I still think they look great for their size.) This causes them to be visible (glow) in darker areas. Quake's palette is pretty skimpy when it comes to rich reds, and the brighter reds all glow in the dark... so I did what I could. Sometimes 2 shells will fly out of the double barrel shotgun stuck together. Random numbers are pretty safe, but sometimes the same two get picked.
