After all the feedback telling me to fix up the M-16 I decided I didn't wanna fix a drowning boat.. I had to make a new gun, but luckily, the differences between this MP-5 and my previous M-16 are few. Some of the most notable improvements are a better looking hand and better texturing on the gun model, and a few other nifty little things like a laser sight. And of course, since the MP-5 is a submachine gun as opposed to an assault rifle, you can expect a bit of unpredictability in your aiming ;) In the early 70's a German gun manufacturing company supplied the West German border police with early versions of their HK-53's. The submachine gun soon adopted the name of MP-5 (machine pistol 5), a name given to them by the West German border police. Soon after there succesful deployment with the West German forces, Heckler and Koch started exporting the guns to various other countries (including the US). The gun became the staple submachine gun of practically every special force agency in the US because of it's stability, and durability in even the most grueling combat environments. There are countless accessories available for the MP-5, including laser sights, sniper scopes, muzzle suppressors, etc... ( a testament to the popularity of this fine gun ). General Quake, ever so aware of cutting edge firepower, decided that in order for his plans for world domination to succeed he must supply his minions with the necessary firepower. With this in mind, he has stocked his inventory with copious amounts of MP-5's which you'll find placed conviently next to his nailgun collections. *********************** * FEATURES * *********************** Ok, after getting a lot of flak for some of the stuff I left out in my first patch , the M-16 I decided to work on another full automatic gun. I believe I've addressed most of the complaints I've gotten from various "people". Anyways.. here are some of the newer features included in this patch. (There are some other features I won't mention here..) - Reloading sequence with an actual skin (none of this T-1000 hand nonsense). Now I've fixed the reloading sequence so that you can actually pick up stuff and not have the sequence interrupted. It works great now! - Laser sight that actually works. Comes in 2 colors : blue/red (red looks really neat but becomes practically useless when there's blood flying everywhere, which is a common occurence..) Laser color can be changed by typing 'impulse 101' at the console. - Force reloading: Now you can reload whenever you feel like it.. but be warned non-empty clips will not be salvaged. (NB. refrain from premature ejection). Reloading is done by typing 'impulse 100'. PS. The sniper scope doesn't actually work, it's just there for looks... ***************************** * How to use Modification * ***************************** This patch is a bit trickier to use than the previous patch. Just follow these steps and you should be on your way to MP-5 heaven. 1) make a directory in your REGISTERED quake directory called "MP-5" (without the quotes :) 2) unzip the file HK-MP5.zip into the new directory you've just created with the -d option (ie. type "pkunzip hk-mp5.zip -d" . This will unzip the file with regards to recursive directories.) 3) Now depending on which version of Quake you plan on running (regular Quake or GLQUake) you might have to run the batch file included in the /progs directory. If you are running GLQuake then you DO NOT run that batch file. If you are running normal Quake then you MUST run that batch file. Basically the batch file just swaps the 2 .mdl's (I created 2 .mdl's for the gun cause the POV in GLquake and Quake vary so dramatically that it was necessary, especially when the MP-5 is a .mdl that is offset to the left, sorry all you rightees :) 4) Now , go to the Quake directory and type "quake -game mp5" or "glquake -game mp5" if you're runnning GLQuake. *********************** * Technical Details * *********************** Bugs: - I can't make these guys do the chaingun dance. Can someone please email me. I think it has something to do with the different time frames for the different entities... Performance Issues: uhmmm.. I know a lot of people are gonna be pissed at me.. but I've actually got more triangles in this thing than my M-16.. I know , I know , I promised I'd try to keep it down but I just couldn't without making the gun look awful or the guy look handicapped. Estimated triangle count : 669 :-( (I'll have to find a way to delete 3 more triangles... ) ******************************************************************** * LEGAL SHMEGAL SHTUFFF & PATHETIC ATTEMPTS AT HUMOUR * ******************************************************************** - IF ANY PUBLISHING COMPANY DECIDES TO PUBLISH THIS PATCH IN SOME CD COMPILATION OF QUAKE MODS WITHOUT MY PERMISSION I WILL PERSONALLY SUE THEIR PANTS OFF!! (that's assuming they wear pants.. the lousy beggars!!) - You can use this patch in any of your patches if you wish to do so. All I ask is that you politely email saying "Hey gooseman, lemme use your patch in my own patch... PS. you're the second coming of Jesus right ? " or something along those lines :) - If you decide to distribute this patch , I ask that you distribute it along with this .txt file for documentational purposes - If you decide to cover yourself in honey, roll around in a pile of brown sugar, paint your eyeballs blue (to simualte the EM Gauss effect), cover your body with black sheets of metal, set your lips on fire and run around calling yourself the M-16A3 then please feel free to do so.. I am in no position to prevent such actions.. - Please do not print this .txt file out and pee on it in a futile attempt to disgrace my name and all those associated it with me... you will only do it in vain :) - And lastly, have fun with this patch!!
