====================================================================== JakFrost's Broadside Demo 3 ====================================================================== Date Recorded: 1999-08-16 20:15 UTC Game Name: Starsiege Tribes Game Version: 1.8 Demo Time: 10 minutes Mission Type: Capture The Flag Mission Name: Broadside Player Name: JakFrost Email: jakfrost(at)planetstarsiege(dot)com Website: http://www.planetstarsiege.com/tactical/ Displayed Tactics: Asset Destruction, Mortar Jumping, Disc Jumping, Long Jumping, Flag Capturing, Base Infiltration ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Description ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a quick little demo that I whipped out to show some of the minor tactics for the Broadside map. The first tactic is of course the destruction of the enemy plasma turret from the front of your own base. That should be the first thing that you should do on this map since it's quick and easy to do and also has great benefits to your team. The next tactic that is displayed is the ability to mortar jump a heavy armor with a shield pack to the front of the enemy base. This tactic is quite important and effective on this map. Everybody should learn how to do that properly. It is also possible to mortar jump a heavy with a shield pack to the roof of the enemy base, although it's a little bit harder. Also, it is possible to mortar jump a heavy with an inventory pack to the enemy base but this is the hardest mortar jumping tactic to perform. My demo entitled JakFrost's Broadside Demo 2 shows both of the above mentioned tactics. Also, there is a little tactic displayed for those people who haven't quite mastered mortar jumping and who end up in the back of the enemy base. This involves disc jumping yourself to the back to the enemy base, and then just jet packing yourself to the roof of the enemy base. This tactic should prove useful to those people who miss their mortar jumps but still want to go on playing. During the heavy armor tactic session I also display how to quickly take out the enemy mortar turret with a simple chaingun. This little tactic should be remembered by everybody who plays on the sister map, Blastside where the mortar turret is in front of the base. If you notice the enemy mortar turret is still up you should take it out as soon as possible with your chaingun since that turret is the most devastating piece of equipment on the map, provided that it is maned by a competent controller. The next set of tactics are done with a light armor carrying an energy pack. The first tactic displayed is the ability of a light to fly from one enemy base to the other without every touching the ground. This should save you quite some time and allow you to avoid all of those nasty and annoying enemy players on the ground. Not to mention the mortaring heavies. Also, if you do this maneuver properly you can use your bouncing inertia to get to the top of the enemy base. You will lose a sliver of your energy using this tactic but it will be worth it in the end due to the amount of time it saves and since it allows you to avoid fire fights. Once on top of the enemy base you can enter though the top of the base even if the enemy motion turret is still operative. If there are no enemy players, no pulse sensors around, and no remote turrets you should be able to sneak by the enemy turret unharmed by using the walk and stop technique. Just walk forward until you notice the turret starts coming out of the ground. Once it's up stop and wait until it goes down again. Remember, you have to stop a little before the turret goes up fully or you'll get shot as I purposefully did in the demo since you will still be moving forward because of inertia. Then repeat the process until you get by it. Remember, after you are behind the wall you still have to wait a little while to let the turret go down or else you'll get shot in the back as did purposefully in the demo if you try to jump down to the ramp through the pillars. If you do this right, you will be able to get around this turret without any scratches, provided that there is nobody there playing defense which is the very case on public servers. Also, while I was running my way to the flag I left mines in front of the inventory stations. The purpose of doing that is that you can't remove mines without destroying them. Which means that either a careless enemy soldier will walk onto the mine thus killing himself, giving you a frag, and at the same time destroying the enemy inventory station, or somebody will decide to shoot the mine, destroying the inventory station, and possibly hurting themselves and others. Either way the inventory station will be destroyed and you will get a frag or not. On the way back, I use the same one jump tactic to get from the enemy base back to my base without ever touching the ground below thus avoiding the enemy, any fire fights, and preventing the flag from get returned. The last set of tactics is performed in a light armor with a shield pack and with a set of weapons for demolition. The first tactic shown is how to get to the roof of the enemy base from the ground below with one jump. This is a very useful technique since it allows you to get right to the top of the base so that you can enter through the usually poorly defended top entrance while avoiding all the nasty enemies below and at the front entrance. When on top of the enemy base you can use the grenade launcher and bounce the grenades of the wall facing the enemy motion turret below so that the grenades explode close to the motion turret and damage it. It takes about 7 grenades to disable the enemy turret but it's always a good idea to empty all 10 of the grenades just in case any enemies decide to walk up the entrance while you are shooting your grenades down there thus blocking them. Also, this tactic will clear out any enemies and remote turrets who might be close to the motion turret. After you are done with your grenades, all it takes is a single shot from any weapon to destroy the badly damaged turret. One word of caution, you are vulnerable while you are shooting the grenades down the hole, so make sure that you keep your shield pack on just in case an enemy respawns on top and decides to shoot at you while you are looking away. After that, you can jump down and run to the enemy generator room. On the way there, make sure that you keep your shield pack on just in case some nasty enemies left remote turrets there to greet you. Watch my JakFrost's Broadside Demo 1 to learn the possible locations for turrets so that you can expect them when you run down to the generator room. Be especially careful of turrets which are placed behind the pillars, since those turrets are very well hidden and their presence will be a literal shock to some would-be attackers. Look at the back of the pillars just to make sure that there are no turrets there and be read to plant some plasma there just in case there are some. Remember, it takes only a single shot to disable a turret, and disabling a turret is a better option than destroying it since to the inexperienced defender a damaged and inoperative turret will still look very much like a fully functional one thus fooling them into a false sense of protection. Well, that's about it for tactics for this demo. Learn some of these tactics as they can save your butt on this map. ______________________________________________________________________
