PRE-INSTALLATION
Before you begin, please remove any old QuakeVoice files you may have in a directory somewhere.
INSTALLATION
Download the server .ZIP file from the QVoice
web site. Once you have it (it isn't THAT big), simply open it up with your
favorite ZIP viewer (WinZip, Plus for 98, etc) and extract all of the files to
the root directory of your harddisk that Quake2 is stored on. Now, the
directories should look like:
c:\quake2
qv-config.cfg ->
You must put in the IP of the server here.
c:\quake2\qv
gamex86.dll -> The game DLL (DM
only)
c:\qv\server
win32mixer.exe -> The mixing application
c:\qv\docs
server.html -> Server documentation
c:\qv\docs\graphix
header.jpg -> QuakeVoice logo
REMEMBER TO EDIT QV-CONFIG.CFG AND PUT YOUR SERVERS IP
IN THERE!
Running a Server
The order in which the mixer and Quake2 server are run is no longer relevant. As long as the mixer does NOT crash (ie: exits gracefully) it can be stopped and started while the q2 server is running. NOTE: Player information will NOT be resent, so the server must be clear of players (to be fixed).
Now, Quake2 should print the IP of the mixer, and print an acknowledgement that the server and mixer are working together. For each thing the server does, the proxy should acknowledge it (including new players, deleting players, talking, stop talking, etc). If this ISN'T the case, kick all clients off and do a "map <mapname>" to force a reinit. If it STILL doesn't work, edit qv-config.cfg and make sure that IP address is correct.
